Universe at War: Earth Assault by Sega, was first released for the PC but now is available for the 360 for those who has desired its arrival for a different console or the fans of Real-Time Strategy ( RTS) games. Universe at War can be played in single player mode or multiplayer online action. The story line of Universe at War is based in the far future and the fate of planet Earth is at stake and guess who is going to be in charge on saving it, Yeah that’s right, You!
The alien forces of the Hierarchy are determined to wipe out all humans and destroy anything and everything that gets in their path not the mention anyone who tries to stop them. The battle is raging in Washington D.C. when a new force arrives. The new force Novis, an army of sentient machines restarts the war in a different manner than usual and its intent is uncertain in whether its arrival wants to help planet Earth or just to defeat the Hierarchy. To make things even more unpredictable a third power the ancient masari, makes their introduction from out of the ocean with their mission to rid the Earth of all invaders.
Each force has their own special powers and heroes (3 in each unit) and success depends on the heroes and their functions along with the objectives that are required to be met within each mission. Each unit also has their own unique tactical dynamics and mechanics which gives each unit a very unique game play and style overall. Each unit also have very highly unique machines for battle and travel along with the weaponry that those house for protection. During play each unit can also gain upgrades on selected items that can very much help with success in battle.
Universe at War presents one very different turn in the form of play and battle in that during all the missions that you will play you just wont choose one unit in which you will be but rather having to play as each of the units from time to time as the missions progress. This can be quiet fun and provides a little different twist to our usual play methods and at the same time bring new variety because with this feature you have to be both good and evil depending on which unit you are playing at that given time.
Each type of unit also requires certain types of buildings for play and some also having prerequisites. Each structure built requires resources and depending on which unit your playing at the time determines how you will collect your resources. Placement of buildings also need to be well thought out to get maximum benefit during play, you will discover how this works after a short period of play. Structures can also be sold if desired and certain buildings are only allowed to be placed in certain areas on the map that the game will allow. You choose where you think you want the structure to go and the game will give you a green light if allowed or a red light if another location has to be selected, its actually pretty simple. Some structures also have optional upgrades once certain prerequisites have been met.
Control is the key to success in Universe at War and utilizing play options and the pull down maps gives you the know where and a heads up on your next options whether you are playing as a single player or in multiplayer mode because variety and options is present in either that you will choose or will be playing within. Universe of War provides many hours of play and replay option. Universe of War does have the usual glitches (but what game doesn’t to some extent.) Overall Universe of War is a fun addition to any console collection.
