Modern Warfare 2 has set out to be the number 1 selling game of all time. It has already crushed the record for top first-day sales. I have anticipated this game since it was announced. This game is absolutely spectacular, jaw-dropping, immense, action-packed, (add your descriptive word here). This is the must-have game, not of the year, but of all time. If you don't have this game, let me tell ya, you're missing out.
Modern warfare 2 will keep you playing, and wanting more. This isn't a game you will stop playing after a week or two, with the short but sweet campaign, the very tactical Spec Ops Mode, and the famous Call of Duty Multiplayer, you'll be likely to put days of play into this game. The campaign replay value is pretty good, and I'll be giving Veteran a shot. The multiplayer, the multiplayer will hook you. You will be completely addicted to this multiplayer, whether that be a good or bad thing. It is so addicting, you might give up smoking just to play it instead. Maybe.
Modern Warfare 2's story is definitely going to keep you on the edge of your seat. Personally, I thought the campaign could have been laid out a little bit better, however. I don't think there were enough cutscenes, to be honest. I think some more cutscenes would have been able to bridge the gap a little better between missions, and such. But really, the only complaint I had was at how short the campaign was. This is only about a 5 hour campaign on Normal difficulty, which is actually quite disappointing. The ending of the game is pretty epic, if I do say so myself. I won't spoil anything for you guys though. The ending of the game surprises you, since you're ready to kick some more bad-guy ass, when the credits pop up on you. I am actually quoted saying "Woah, it's over?". Short the campaign may be, but it makes up for it. The campaign is really challenging, and I struggled in a few places on Normal. I would imagine that tackling this game on Veteran would be a challenge only a hardcore gamer could complete successfully. If you haven’t played Call of Duty 4, you will be a little confused at times during the story involving previous characters (like Captain "Soap" Mactavish is now your commanding officer) but you will still have fun along the way. Upon completion of the campaign, you will likely notice that it looks like Infinity Ward could be planning a Modern Warfare 3.
Spec Ops, the brand-spankin'- new mode never before seen in the Call of Duty series. If you're wondering what it is, it is a bunch of missions based on the campaign. You will do something different in each of these missions, but I would suggest playing the campaign first, as Spec Ops is completely derived from campaign missions. The missions range from defending houses, gunning from helicopters, to the very fun snowmobile race game. Spec Ops allows from 1 to 2 players to use tactics and strategy to win. So if you have a best friend, or a little brother, you can split screen or play over the internet with 'em.
Yeah yeah, campaign is cool and all, and I'll check out Spec Ops, but I wanna hear about the multiplayer. Well, like I said earlier, the multiplayer will hook you. It is better than Call of Duty 4's multiplayer, which I had logged over 400 hours in. Yes; I am a nerd, and a huge Call of Duty fan. In multiplayer you will notice the constant air support from both teams. There will be helicopters dropping crates, Predator Missiles dropping onto the battlefield, helicopters attacking defenseless infantry, air strikes flying overhead and the occasional infamous AC130. Air support is a big part of the multiplayer. There is almost a completely new set of guns, only a few are returning from Call of Duty 4. The P90, M16, and Dragonov, for example are returning. The new guns are definitely good on Modern Warfare 2, and any gun fanatics shouldn’t be disappointed. There are a lot of weapon attachments this time around, including: shotgun attachment, heartbeat sensor, silencers for your sniper, and thermal scope to name a few. The multiplayer on Modern Warfare 2 (like all the Call of Duty games) is huge and a very big part of the game. I actually considered doing two reviews over the game, one for campaign & Spec Ops, and one for the multiplayer, if that gives you any idea of how big it is. But it is hard to describe the campaign, especially if you haven’t played any Call of Duty games. This is just a game you will have to play for yourself.
No game is completely perfect, including Modern Warfare 2. MW2 isn't without its own flaws. You will have minor problems such as the silly AI popping up in your line of fire, and small things like that. Nothing major is wrong with the game, however.
There was a big conflict between PC gamers and Infinity Ward. The fact that IW decided not to have dedicated servers for Modern Warfare 2 really upset some PC gamers. I didn't buy the PC version, so I can't really say much on the matter, but I figured I would tell you guys about the "problem" on the PC version.
Like I said earlier, I am a huge Call of Duty fan. And that is a good thing for you guys, because I can review all of the Collector's Editions for Modern Warfare 2. Yes, I bought everything. I bought a Prestige Edition (which has the Hardened Edition inside it) for both the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. Yes, 2 Prestige Editions. But that wasn't the only thing I walked out of the store on Launch Night with. I bought the Limited Edition Modern Warfare 2 Console as well. I spent over $700 on launch night. I'm not trying to brag, I'm going to tell you if they're worth it. The Hardened Edition. The Hardened Edition was not a very good deal in my opinion. You payed an extra $30 or so, only to get an Artbook and the Call of Duty 1 Download Code. It just didn’t seem worth it. The Prestige Edition. The Prestige Edition seemed like a pretty good deal, with the Hardened Edition inside it plus the night vision goggles. I have indeed tested out the fully functioning goggles, it is very hard to use them, but they are still pretty cool. So overall, if you're willing to spend the $150, I would tell you to buy it. The Limited Edition Xbox 360 Console. Hell yeah! A new limited edition console! This thing is pretty much a deal. For $400 you get the console itself, a 250GB Hard Drive (, the game itself, two black wireless controllers, a black wired headset, and bragging rights. Who could believe it, you can buy bragging rights in a big black box!
Overall, Modern Warfare 2 is probably going to be the number 1 selling game of all time. This is the must-have game of the year, and is likely to achieve a Game Of The Year Award. I definitely recommend this game to anyone who is thinking about buying it. This game is stunning. You won't regret buying this game.
