I recently downloaded the Red Faction: Guerrilla Demons of the Badlands downloadable content (DLC). This DLC costs $10 or 800 Microsoft Points on Xbox 360. The download is 874.75 MB and is rated M for Mature. In this DLC you play as Samanya, and as revealed in the game’s story, she used to be a Marauder, so as playing as her you are dressed as a Marauder, but you’re not only dressed as one, you are one. Instead of Red Faction Members helping you with battle, it’s the Marauders this time. They will come as reinforcements, or they will get onto your vehicle turrets to give you some covering fire as you navigate through the harsh terrain that the EDF has to offer.

For this new DLC expect 7 brand new Marauder weapons including the Spiker Machine Gun, and the Marauder Misslepod. Also, you may expect 3 new vehicles as well. With the 11 new actions, including Raids and Demolitions. Brag to your friends about your ever-increasing Gamerscore once you unlock the 10 brand new achievements (Trophies) that are included with the DLC.

First I will talk about starting up the DLC. Instead of going to a certain location on your map to start it, which I would prefer, you actually go to the Downloadable Content, at the Main Menu and either start a new game, or load a saved one.

Besides that, you start as Samanya, as stated earlier. You spawn at a Marauder Base, which looks identical to the Red Faction Bases, only with friendly Marauders walking around. Maybe the developers got a little bit lazy on us?

The first mission for you to complete is to save the Marauder’s Leader, and your sister. She is locked up in an EDF Base guarded by two gates. The first gate, you will have to complete destroy, whether it be with your Sledgehammer, or your Remote Charges, after all of the EDF are dead. Pretty simple, right? Well, the next gate is a tad more difficult. This EDF Base is a little more heavily guarded, but some Spiker bullets should take good care of those pesky EDF. This gate may strike you as odd when first see it because, just in front of it is a big blue force field. don’t get too intimidated, this force field is easily taken care of with a switch, located inside the Base. After that, destroy the second wall, get inside the EDF Building that is holding your beloved sister hostage, and get her out. That was just the first of three missions available to you. But, since I wouldn’t want to spoil any of the story, I’ll stop there.

Personally, I completed the story missions in a little over an hour, maybe two. However, if you completed everything possible to do there, you could be entertained for three, four, possibly even more if you walked everywhere.

Overall, in my opinion, Red Faction: Guerrilla Demons of the Badlands DLC is not worth $10 (800 MS Points). Although this DLC is quite good, with some compelling and exiting moments, I wouldn’t pay $10 for it. However, if you are a Red Faction Guerrilla fan, you may love the DLC. I liked it, but I did not love it. But with the new weapons, vehicles and areas to explore, most likely some of you cannot resist from buying it. However I would not call this a waste of money, but I think that it isn’t completely worthy of my $10.
