Media Create has put out new figures which show that the Nintendo DS has outsold the Sony PlayStation 2 in Japan since its launch in 2004.
This is pretty big news for Nintendo as the DS launched in 2004 in Japan, compared to the 2000 launch of the PS2.
In its lifespan thus far the Nintendo DS has proven to be an absolutely huge success and continues to be just that. Sony has always touted that the PS2 has the largest installed user base of any console, that may now not be the case anymore.
In Japan, according to Media Create, Nintendo has now sold more DS consoles than Sony has sold PS2 consoles, an amazing achievement for a handheld to say the least.
This comes as the Sony PSP continues to perform extremely well also. It seems that the sky is the limit as the DS and PSP continue to roll in Japan with great sales.
